At the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, you have the opportunity to see the five original Viking ships that were excavated from Roskilde Fjord in 1962. These nearly 1000-year-old vessels are displayed in the Viking Ship Hall, where they appear as dark silhouettes against the vibrant backdrop of the fjord.
The museum is beautifully situated by Roskilde Fjord and comprises the Viking Ship Hall, a museum island with a boatyard, workshops, and Café Knarr, which serves New Nordic Viking cuisine, as well as the museum harbour where Viking ships and Nordic wooden boats are docked.
Here, you can also observe the shipbuilders up close as they reconstruct Viking ships using raw muscle power and tools from the Viking era.
As a unique experience, you can take hold of the oar and get a taste of Viking life at sea when you sail out on the fjord in an authentic Viking ship.
