The Viking Museum in Aarhus is a small "on site" basement museum that hides under the bank Nordea on Store Torv. The museum is located on top of the old Aros and on the way down to the basement you can see the layers of previous city life that is hidden underground. The museum gives a glimpse into the houses and streets the Vikings in Aros built more than 1000 years ago. In 1964, during excavations at the site, archaeologists gained insight into Viking Age Aarhus for the first time, where objects and traces of pit houses appeared. Many of the excavations around Aarhus have taken given new insight into the ring rampart in the center of Aarhus.
